crowd surfing - stick to the fundamentals

For anyone considering taking up Surfing as their latest sport, the thought of your first day at the beach and your first attempts at catching waves can be a very intimidating thought. Hawaii is the original home of surfing.

Don't under estimate the kids who are most likely 8 year old to mid teens, its amazing how young these kids start surfing waves. It's much safer and much more rewarding. It is from the winds fetch that waves are produced and made.

Always stay within your comfort zone. Longboards provide great flotation and stability, but they are called tankers because they can be harder to maneuver around the waves. Same goes for finding your gear, the Internet can save you money and also let you compare the different available equipment.

You'll need to do a lot of this later on, and it also improves your balance. So where ever you purchase your next board make sure they provide advice and ask you questions about the factors listed above before you buy.
