It always looks so exciting when you watch surfers on the shore or on TV. Surfing is a phenomenal sport that can literally be picked up by almost anyone at nearly any age.
Surfboards come in a range of styles and sizes and also have different manufacturing processes. Depending on the climate and water temperature in your area, you may need a wetsuit. The Quicksilver Eddie Aikau Invitational competition is held here annually, with wave requirements being 20 feet or higher.
For the intermediate or expert skill level surfers out there, the choice is yours for the type of surfboard you want to use, and it will depend on the type of surfing you want to do. The second type of a wipeout and without a doubt the most horrific is going over the falls, this is from not having enough paddling speed to catch the wave early enough, getting sucked up the face and pitched over with the lip. The sun is much stronger when out surfing as it not only hits you from above, but also reflects off the water.
You should be a confident swimmer, and know the dangers and how to spot them. Check out the surf spot while warming up.
