Surfing is popular largely because it requires no formal training, a minimum of equipment and can be enjoyed by almost anyone at any age. It might be tempting, especially in a beachside location or if you have friends that surf, to just grab a surfboard and go for it.
Remember the more flotation, the easier it will be to stand up but it will be harder to push through the waves and get out the back. Other famous world class Hawaii surf spots are kammies, backdoor, rocky point, laniakea, jockos and haleiwa just to name a few. Practicing yoga and learning to focus and balance will not only help you master the mindset side of surfing but will also help to avoid injury and increase flexibility.
It takes time to master the sport of surfing, but with the right instruction it can be easier than you think. The soft construction of the board ensures you don't get hurt during the spills while you still enjoy the thrills. Allow at least 45 minutes from the time you last ate before going out.
Remember that you are a guest and that waves should be shared. Best of all, there are definitely places to find instructors and lessons at a great price.
