big island surfing

People in Hawaii made huge wood boards and would get in the water and paddle themselves out in the water and then paddle and ride the waves as they broke over the shallow sand or reefs. Hawaii's sunset beach the popular North Shore of Oahu is regarded as one of the most famed surfing spots in the world.

One of the best ways to jump into surfing and get your feet wet is to sign up at a local surfing school close to where you live. Your instructor should also be happy to give you some advice about where to start.

Great for kids and smaller adults looking for a great beginners board or the experienced longboarder needing something more maneuverable. Tom Blake, founder of the Pacific Coast Surf Championships that ended with the onset of war in 1941, was the first man to photograph surfing from the water. Some surfers really like longboarding, while others prefer the maneuverability of a shortboard.

The ideal boards to learn to surf on would be 8-9 ft, and wider than usual. Most surfing lessons and surfing instructors can provide you with training surfboards, but when you decide to get serious, definitely buy yourself a nice one. A great board for someone trying to make the transition to shortboarding or spends most sessions riding sloppy waves.

Don't make the mistake of eating and surfing. If you are surfing on a patrolled beach make sure that you keep within the designated surfing area.
