Most of the older guys you see in the water these days did not have the benefit of surf schools when they where learning. The first thing you will need is the right equipment.
While in the 1960 s through the 1980 s it was unusual to see women in the water you can go to the beach now and see sometimes up to half of the people in the water are female. Not only that but you can always talk it up with your mates over a few cold ones after. Check out how the school operates.
Having expert instruction from day one on your surf board will also ensure that you won t form bad habits or technique, you will be learning the proper techniques right off the bat. There are midsize boards, often called funboards, which will give you the best of both worlds. Non-surfing activities are also great for fitness which will always help your surfing.
If you are surfing on a patrolled beach make sure that you keep within the designated surfing area. Generally the better the surfer the smaller their board in length, width and thickness.
