There are certain terms that might confuse a beginner, and picking out your first board might seem a bit overwhelming. It's great because anywhere there are waves, chances are people surf them in one form or another.
Don't under estimate the kids who are most likely 8 year old to mid teens, its amazing how young these kids start surfing waves. Some people swear by longboards for their entire surfing career, claiming that they are faster and simply more fun. Another good reason to not go it alone initially is because surfing, like any sport, can be dangerous for the uninitiated.
Ask people who have had lessons with the school. Shortboards come in a variety of styles, but they are usually the thinnest kind of board with the least buoyancy. Practice jumping up in one motion, standing side on and keeping the board planing if possible.
Practice makes Perfect. With a little time and effort, you can find just the right surfboard for your sessions, so that you can make the most of this fun in the sun watersport.
