surfing for life

All you need is a surfboard, some swimming ability and a nearby beach. The two main components of surfing are paddling out and dropping in.

Now surfers can surf year round, as well as in places with freezing cold water, and keep warm. Depending on the climate and water temperature in your area, you may need a wetsuit. Others feel that longboards are great for learning, but after a year or two, a no longer newbie surfer can get more out of shortboard or a fish or a fun board.

Surfing gear such as wetsuits and surfboards that are in good shape and well maintained is another great sign that they are serious about their business. Stretch your neck, put your chin near the deck of your surfboard, and hurl your every thought and inspiration down the face of the wave as you paddle. Non-surfing activities are also great for fitness which will always help your surfing.

Having an experienced surfing teacher will help take a great deal of the frustration out of your learning curve, and you will improve quickly. Have a chat with the instructors and go with your gut feel.
