surfing terms

Instead of thinking about how you re going to get your board into your car and how you re going to feel after your first wipeout, your most important thought should be what beach am I going to choose to get acclimated with my board and which beach is going to be easiest for me to catch my first waves. It s all about conquering fear, learning water safety, expanding your ocean and wave knowledge, and returning to the true essence of surfing, fun and relaxation.

Have a couple of lessons first, maybe try a few different surfboards of various shapes and sizes, and then think a little more about what board is best for you. If you feel the call of the sun and surf pumping through your veins, it s time to find an instructor. Another photographer and surfer named Doc Ball published California Surfriders 1946, which depicts the pristine coastal beaches and good time, relaxed atmosphere of surf living.

There are all sorts of secret breaks and deserted beaches along South Africa s Wild Coast. Longboards provide great flotation and stability, but they are called tankers because they can be harder to maneuver around the waves. Another great thing to do is to practice sitting on your board when your in the water.

Finding out every tidbit of information available about surfing and surfboards is not only beneficial to the surfer or potential surfer, but it's a great deal of fun. Taking surfing lessons will not only inform you of the basics of your new hobby, but it will also help you progress faster than you would trying to go out there and self-teach.
